I don’t know about you, but when summer hits, my craving for refreshing summer drinks hits, too! On those summer afternoons spent soaking up the sunshine, nothing seems to hit the spot better than a sugar-filled fruity drink.
Guess what? This Pina Colada Protein Smoothie is the perfect healthy alternative. It’s so smooth, creamy and flavorful, you would never know it wasn’t a complete indulgence. If you’re like me and in need of a refreshing yet healthy drink to sip on this summer, this Pina Colada Protein Smoothie is it!
What I Put in My Pina Colada Protein Smoothie
I always use Burn Boot Camp’s AfterBurn protein powder. I cannot tell you how many protein powders are out there that are made from low-quality protein sources and contain added preservatives, colorings, sweeteners, artificial sweeteners and many other toxic fillers. With AfterBurn, I don’t need to worry about any of this! AfterBurn is my go-to protein powder because I know the ingredients are 100% safe and trustworthy. AfterBurn provides you with 23 grams of grass-fed and finished whey protein, a complete amino acid profile, organic and non-GMO ingredients, and zero artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners or preservatives.
I also use full-fat coconut milk, which is a key ingredient in making this Pina Colada Protein Smoothie the most delicious and healthy it can be! Full-fat coconut milk is the source of the extra creaminess in this recipe. It’s also loaded with healthy fats that help boost your metabolism and burn more body fat. To ensure you are buying the correct coconut milk, look for coconut milk that is marked “full-fat” and comes in a can. You’ll typically find full-fat coconut milk at your local grocery store in the international foods section. I suggest not using the coconut milk that comes in a carton and is usually found on the shelf with other non-dairy milk alternatives, like almond and soy milk, as it won’t make this recipe as creamy. Plus, these milk alternatives are typically loaded with sugar and have no nutritional value. (Ensure the full-fat coconut milk you use in your Pina Colada Protein Smoothie doesn’t contain added sugar either.)
What also makes this Pina Colada Protein Smoothie extra creamy is the frozen fruit. You can make this recipe with fruit that isn’t frozen, but it won’t be quite as creamy. I also tossed in a small handful of ice cubes to increase the thickness and used coconut water to boost the coconut flavor in this drink, although regular water will work just fine.
I hope you’ll enjoy this Pina Colada Protein Smoothie just as much as I do! The next time you need a refreshment, give this recipe a try.
