Maureen experiences first hand how Burn Boot Camp changed her life and the lives of her family members!
Hi there, my name is Maureen Bahr. I’m 40 years old and I am a member at Burn Boot Camp, HQ – Huntersville, usually the 5:00 AM camp. I just celebrated my 1 year “Burn-iversary” on April 4th. I have experienced a 20 LB weight loss and numerous inches. My body fat percentage dropped almost 10% from 28.6 to 18.9%. I’ve never been a morning person, and can’t say I love waking up at 4:30… however, I know how great I’ll feel after my workout so I try to be in bed by 9:00 PM in order to feel better about the early morning wake up.
My Burn story began back in 2013. I bought the Groupon with the intention of trying it out for 30 days. At the time, I was working full time as a nurse from 8:30-5:00 and my husband worked crazy hours from 4AM-1PM. My son was 6 and my daughter was 2. I was tired all the time and had never lost my baby weight. I had seen social media posts from friends giving Burn Boot Camp a try and loving it. However, I could not find a way to work this into my schedule. The Groupon expired and I never set foot into the gym.
Fast forward…
Come April 2016 and not much had changed in my fitness routine. I still had the same complaints. I had tried different diets, but nothing ever “stuck.” I was overweight, tired and feeling discouraged. We were driving home from spring break and I saw posts again on social media regarding the Commit 2 Fit special at Burn Boot Camp. I was still working full time, but my husband’s hours had now changed. He was working a 9-5 job and I knew if I were to give this a shot, I would have to attend camp in the wee hours of the morning. I decided to give it a go. I signed up on line and walked into the gym for the first time on April 4th, 2016. I was scared and nervous, and a bit overwhelmed. However, I was greeted by Ashley Beasley who welcomed and acclimated me to the gym. I quickly realized that I could do this and stuck with it.
In the weeks to come, I became aware that Burn Boot Camp was so much more than a way for me to lose weight. It was hard work, but with the challenging exercises and with time, it started to pay off. These days I’m feeling comfortable with my body and not as concerned with the number on the scale. I feel so much stronger and more energized. I participated and exceeded my expectations in the Raise the Bar Challenge and received a wonderful prize pack (thank you, Burn)!. I have started running in races and just completed the Cooper River Bridge Run 10K. I met my goal of running it in under an hour. I have received excellent nutritional advice both from my trainers at our one-on-one focus meetings and from the Burn Nutrition Facebook page. I have gained new friendships with my work out gals in the back left corner.
I’ve become an Athlete
About a month ago, one of my coworkers referred to me as an athlete. Initially I scoffed at the term, but then after contemplation, I realized that I have an impact on other people’s perceptions. I don’t consider myself an athlete, but when others comment on my hard work and dedication, I know that I have the potential to influence others to change their lives as well. Most importantly to me, I am seeing how my fitness is changing my family life. My husband is proud of me, my children are watching me and they have been to the gym with me and we have utilized the day care. They ask me about my workouts. My daughter has set up obstacle courses in our living room pretending she is at Burn Boot Camp. They have watched me train for runs and have been asking to do a race with me. We are now signing up to do the 5K Super Run in May as a family. I enjoy having the energy to participate in fun physical activities with my family.
So, I’m a year in and really did not expect to be where I am now. I’m in the best shape of my life and love how strong I feel. I look forward to continuing the Burn Lifestyle for many years to come.
