Remember Why You Started

February 28, 2017

Here at Burn Boot Camp we pride ourselves on inspiring others, empowering women and changing lives. We work hard to let our clients know that change isn’t just external, but internal as well. When you take care of your physical health, your mental health immediately improves and leaves you feeling positive and ready to conquer the world. Read Stephanie decided to put herself first and changed her life, her body and her mindset after joining Burn Boot Camp.

Stephanie Derousseau – North West Raleigh, NC

I have always been on the chubby side. I can distinctly remember instances in my life when it was pointed out to me and I felt effected by it. Before Burn, playing with my kids was me sitting in a chair as they played in the yard. I was not active. And I absolutely did not take photos of myself. It was hard to find one even for this. A friend of mine suggested we check out this Burn Boot Camp place. She kept bailing on me every time we decided to go. Finally one Saturday, I got up and went on my own. I always thought that my exercise routine of using my elliptical machine for an hour a day was cutting it. Boy was I wrong.

I could not walk for three days after my first workout with Scott. I enjoyed it. So I went back on Wednesday. I thought I was being slick going at 5am because it was only 30 minutes. I had to mod down on the majority of the exercises. Having been athletic as a younger me, I never realized how actually out of shape I truly was. “You can do anything for 20 seconds.” That is what stuck in my mind. 20 seconds. I can do this. But then 20 seconds became 40 and then a minute. Then out of the blue, results started coming. I am seeing muscles in places I had no idea I would ever be able to tone. My stomach started to flatten out. I have what might possibly become an actual ab muscle. Not bad for a girl that could not hold herself up in a plank, or hold herself up on the equalizer bars, or do any resemblance of a push up, or even run 20 yards without being winded. It has been 10 months and I am in the best shape of my life. I weigh less than I did as a freshman in high school, I am definitely smaller, and I feel amazing. I have new friends that are amazingly supportive and willing to make me push myself to limits that I never knew my body could hit.

This community of people is REAL. I am eating better than I ever have before. I am more aware of over indulging. I am aware of what is going into my body. My mental state has become clearer. I see myself as a completely different person. I actually choose to run around after my children. I am in a better place after I leave. It is truly the only time in my day that it is strictly about me. I can care about me without distraction or worry. Mostly my worry during class is to not vomit or pass out, but I am actually having fun. My goals are similar to everyone at Burn. Get to the next level of this exercise. What can I do to make this better for me? Can I catch that person? I might not get there, but I am going to try. She is trying that, can I do that one day? And as long as I leave knowing I gave 100%, I feel amazing. The absolute best part of this experience has been seeing people reach their goals. It is a group of women cheering because someone did something they could not do before no matter how simple it may seem. Someone stepped it up one notch. Someone accomplished something that they never thought possible. When they accomplish it, you feel like you have too, because we have become invested in each other’s success. How is that not motivating to keep going back?
